Sofia's 1st Mardi Gras

Tuesday, February 5, 2007 was Mardi Gras Day and my birthday, so we decided to take Sofia to New Orleans to see Carnival. Maw Maw and Paw Paw had a sweet cushy ladder made for Ava and Sofia to sit in at the parades. We went down to St. Charles Ave. to watch the Krewe of Rex. At first the girls loved sitting up on their perch surveying the scene. People thought they were sisters. Ava and Sofia both liked looking around at all the new people. Then they really did start acting like sisters.
Ava took an interest in Sofia's toy. Then Sofia's crankiness due to her lack of a nap took over and she hit Ava. That was the end of them watching the parade together from the ladder. We've never seen her do that before, but we wanted to make sure it didn't happen again. Mardi Gras is supposed to be about fun, not tears.

Sofia mostly ignored the parade. She was content to cuddle with her daddy and play with beads. She really was a sleepy girl.

Erin showed Ava how to say,"Throw me somethin' Mista!"

Neither of the girls really cared much about the floats. What they really liked was the bands!

It ended up being a very nice day. Sofia really liked playing with all the beads and stuffed animals that we caught. Towards the end of the morning she even ventured back onto the ladder for a little while.

Then when she had finally had enough, we took a 20 minute walk down to Grandma Carol and Grandpa Larry's condo. She was fast asleep before we even got there. It was a great first Mardi Gras for Sofia. She really surprised us all by adapting so well to such a strange scene. I'm sure next year Sofia will enjoy it even more.
